German bass clarinet mouthpiece

$150.00

The JDwoodwinds German bass clarinet mouthpiece is specifically aimed at Boehm system bass clarinet players looking to take their first steps in the world of German bass clarinets. German bass clarinets typically use a much smaller mouthpiece than Boehm system bass clarinets, and until now these mouthpieces were very hard to find outside of Europe. In addition to being used for German bass clarinets, you can also use these mouthpieces on Boehm system bass clarinets by using an adapter.

This mouthpiece features a traditionally inspired facing with a 1.35mm tip opening paired with a long facing length giving it both excellent response and a nice focused tone. Each mouthpiece is hand finished to ensure they play well. Given the limited availability of German bass clarinet reeds outside of Europe, this mouthpiece is designed to work equally well with both Pilgerstorfer bass clarinet reeds as well as Vandoren alto clarinet reeds (Which interestingly enough are used by many German bass clarinet players). My personal preference for both is strength 3.5. Custom facings are also available on request. This mouthpiece comes complete with a traditional string ligature, however a Rovner alto clarinet ligature also works well.

The standard mouthpiece socket diameter for modern German bass clarinets is 27mm, however if you have an older bass clarinet with a 26mm socket I can make a mouthpiece for it for no additional cost.

As with any woodwind mouthpiece, it is recommended to clean your mouthpiece (and reed) after each play session to help your equipment last as long as possible and prevent the build up of germs.
