Maintenance: Dos and Don'ts

All JDwoodwinds accessories are designed with longevity in mind, but misuse or neglect can damage or destroy your accessory. Follow these guidelines to make sure your accessory lasts as long as possible:

Do:

  • Swab your accessory and remove all moisture from the bore, tenon or socket after playing

  • Store your accessory in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use

  • Use only as much cork grease as necessary, this will prevent grime and premature failure of the cork

  • Wipe off any extra cork grease from tenons and sockets to prevent dust from collecting in these areas

  • Wash your accessory with cool water and dish soap if it becomes too dirty

Don’t:

  • Store your accessory in a hot car

  • Leave your accessory in direct sunlight for more than a few hours (occasional outdoor concerts are fine, just don’t leave your neck on a window sill for a month!)

  • Use alcohol, acetone or any other solvent to clean your accessory, doing so may cause discoloration or damage to the finish

  • Drill any holes for a pickup, all necks can be custom made with a pickup hole, attempting to drill your own hole will permanently destroy your neck!

  • Attempt to shorten or modify any accessories, they cannot me machined like traditional barrels or mouthpieces
