C melody saxophone mouthpiece
The C melody saxophone is one of my favorite members of saxophone family, and ever since I acquired my first Conn I’ve been wanting to design my own professional quality mouthpiece to enhance the qualities of this very underrated instrument. I wanted a mouthpiece that didn’t compromise on intonation, response, projection or tone, and while I feel some mouthpieces on the market come close I didn’t find exactly what I was looking for. After years of studying many C melody, alto and tenor sax mouthpieces I am very excited to present the JDwoodwinds professional C melody saxophone mouthpiece.
This is not just a scaled down tenor mouthpiece or a scaled up alto mouthpiece. It was designed from the ground up to provide exceptional playing characteristics at a reasonable price point. It is designed to tune well and provide nice in-tune octaves with vintage C melody saxophones and provide that characteristic C melody sound while also having the projection, response and intonation of a modern professional mouthpiece.
This mouthpiece features an optimally sized 2.0mm facing which gives excellent projection and is designed to work well in both jazz and classical settings. The facing, tip and rails of each mouthpiece are hand leveled and finished to a professional standard to ensure every mouthpiece plays just as well as the one I use personally. I provide two bore options for this mouthpiece. The 16mm bore is the same as most vintage C melody mouthpieces and is ideal if you do not wish to re-cork your neck. The 17mm bore is the same as most tenor sax mouthpieces and is for those that have already re-corked their neck to fit larger bore mouthpieces. This mouthpiece is designed to work with strength 2.5-3 tenor saxophone reeds and takes standard hard rubber sized tenor sax ligatures.
All of my mouthpieces are made from an FDA approved material and can easily be washed with soap and warm water to remove germs. As with any woodwind mouthpiece, it is recommended to clean your mouthpiece (and reed) after each play session to help your equipment last as long as possible and prevent the build up of germs.
