Stainless steel bass clarinet mouthpiece
All mouthpieces have been sold for now! I have 2 more blanks on the way, orders placed now will ship around late April.
The JDwoodwinds professional stainless bass clarinet mouthpiece brings the full sound and even response of vintage bass clarinet mouthpieces into the 21st century. I spent years collecting bass clarinet mouthpieces, looking for the best possible mouthpiece to base my design off of. I finally found what I was looking for in the form of a Buffet “Evettine” mouthpiece that was refaced by the legendary Glen Johnson. From here I spend several more years using design elements from this mouthpiece to design my own. After countless prototypes and many hours play testing mouthpieces, I am finally ready to release my creation to the world. While many modern mouthpieces have been moving towards larger tip openings, this mouthpiece is instead designed for players that want a more reasonable tip opening without sacrificing excellent response and a full tone. For me personally, I found that while I like how larger tip bass clarinet mouthpieces play, they often need a significant amount of air and can be tiring on on one’s embouchure. The JDwoodwinds bass clarinet mouthpiece is designed to give the benefits of these mouthpieces while using less air and less jaw pressure. This mouthpiece features a 1.85mm tip opening and works well with 3-3.5 reeds. Each mouthpiece is carefully hand finished to ensure a level facing and even rails. I personally use a Rovner Dark ligature with this mouthpiece, however most bass clarinet ligatures will work.
This mouthpiece has the same design as my standard bass clarinet mouthpiece, but is made from over 8 ounces of solid stainless steel! The hard surface of stainless steel means that less energy is lost when the reed makes contact with the rails, which translates to better response and projection compared to a hard rubber or plastic mouthpiece. This mouthpiece will also last far longer than a standard mouthpiece while not being as fragile as a crystal mouthpiece.
As with any woodwind mouthpiece, it is recommended to clean your mouthpiece (and reed) after each play session to help your equipment last as long as possible and prevent the build up of germs.
