Selmer F. Barbier A Key Clarinet
Looking for a high quality yet affordable A clarinet? For sale we have a Selmer F. Barbier wooden A clarinet in excellent playing condition. F. Barbier was once their own clarinet manufacturer before being acquired by Selmer Paris. Just like the pro Selmer models these clarinets were made with high quality tight grained Grenadilla wood and forged nickel silver keys. This clarinet has been fully repadded and serviced and is in excellent playing condition. I used low noise synthetic pads for the pads normally held closed and black leather pads for the smaller open standing pads. This combination is durable, seals very well and still provides the nice firm feel of leather pads. Both body joints were also fully stripped and cleaned, keys were oiled and regulated and key corks were replaced as needed using tech cork and Teflon in critical locations to improve reliability. This clarinet plays perfectly from top to bottom with a nice full and even tone and good intonation. The instrument is also very responsive and free blowing. The stock barrel seems to be more suited to the older style of clarinet mouthpieces with a large bore, so included in this sale are 2 additional 3D printed wood composite barrels that I made that play well with modern mouthpieces. Note the bell does not have any markings, but otherwise is a good match for the instrument. At one point a repair was done to the middle tenon and a metal sleeve was added. This repair was done very well and other than the sleeve I see little to no evidence of the past damage. Because of this repair I have kept the price much lower that what it would otherwise be worth, so if you don’t mind this and have been looking for a high quality French made A clarinet then this is an excellent opportunity. The case appears to be a modified Bb case but otherwise fits the instrument well so I will include it.
