Buffet Crampon wooden bass clarinet with low C extension, recently overhauled!
For sale we have a lovely 1947 Buffet Bb bass clarinet with a custom removable low C extension. This bass clarinet is from the same era as those used by legends such as Dennis Smylie and Eric Dolphy (yes believe it or not he played a Buffet in addition to the Selmer model 30!). These bass clarinets feature a 23.3mm bore in the body, the same as the current Tosca! It also features a left hand Ab/Eb, fully automatic double register vent mechanism and a floor peg in addition to the custom low C extension. This bass clarinet was fully overhauled last year and has barely been played since as it has been a backup to my main bass clarinet. For this overhaul I used high quality Pisoni pads throughout. All pads were treated with lacquer in the traditional method used by sax techs, this makes the leather more water resistant and will help the pads last for many decades to come! The wood is in good condition with no cracks that I could find. There was a small chip on the outside of the upper joint but it was not near anything that would affect playability and it has been filled with Grenadilla dust and glue. Other than that the bell does show some dents on the bottom like many other bass clarinets and the instrument does show dents, dings and scratches associated with normal use. Comes with a modified Buffet Prestige case that allows you to leave the extension assembled. Also comes with a new JDwoodwinds bass clarinet mouthpiece.
