Looking for a great playing but affordable R13A clarinet? This 1970 Buffet R13A is from the middle of Buffet’s Golden Era and has just been fully serviced to ensure it is in excellent playing condition. As part of the service both joints were fully stripped, oiled with natural almond oil and all tenon corks were replaced. Tone holes were also leveled as needed and the logos were touched up. Keys were hand polished and fresh Syntek key oil was applied. Finally pads and key corks were replaced as needed and keys were adjusted to ensure good ergonomics and an even response throughout. Tech cork was also added in critical locations to improve long term reliability. This clarinet features cork pads in critical locations and skin pads in other locations, all pads are in great condition and both joints have a nice tight seal. Unfortunately it did have two surface cracks running from the shoulder of the upper joint down. Fortunately as you can see from the last photo the cracks do not extend into the bore and the bore itself is very smooth and shiny, a good sign that this clarinet was well cared. Fortunately the surface cracks were repaired very well on this instrument. In addition to pins, a tone hole insert was added to the G# key and a carbon fiber band was added around the top of the upper joint. This is probably overkill but it’s good insurance to prevent cracks from opening up in the future. There is also a tenon cap on the middle tenon but I do not see any signs of damage in this area so this could have just been done to reduce wobble. The original barrel was also missing so a new Buffet R13A barrel is included. Normally an R13A in similar condition would cost $2500-$3000+ however because of the repairs I have priced it significantly lower. After playing it regularly I have not seen any signs of the surface cracks shifting so I am confident that they will not be an issue, however I am still offering a 6 month crack repair warranty. If a crack opens up on this instrument within 6 months of purchase I will repair it with addition pins/bands if needed for free, the only expense would be shipping if you are not local. Comes with a ProTec double case in good condition.
