Up for sale we have a vintage 1904 Buffet professional “Pre-R13” C clarinet. These vintage Buffets are some of my favorite C clarinets. Not only is the tone and response excellent but the intonation is also quite good with modern mouthpieces thanks to its small bore with undercut tone holes. This clarinet also comes with a custom tuning barrel and bell to further improve the intonation and response. This clarinet is in good condition for its age and has just been serviced to ensure it plays well from top to bottom. It features mostly leather pads with a few synthetic pads in key locations. All pads are either new or like new and both joints have a good seal. Likewise key corks have also been replaced as need and the tenon corks are nice and tight. The wood has been freshly oiled with natural almond oil with vitamin E added and the keys have been oiled and tightened as needed as well. Finally pad heights have been adjusted to ensure an even tone and good intonation throughout. This clarinet does unfortunately have one repaired surface crack extending from the post for the register key to the upper shoulder of the upper joint. Fortunately as you can see from the photos the crack does not extend into the bore nor does it even extend into the upper tenon or any tone holes. A previous owner has had the crack professionally repaired and after playing it regularly for the last few weeks and even traveling with it on a plane the crack has shown absolutely no signs of movement. Because of this I am confident that it will never be an issue, that being said I have priced this instrument lower because of it and I am offering a 6 month crack repair warranty where I will repair it again with carbon fiber pins/bands if needed free of charge. The only expense you would need to cover would be shipping if you are not local. Comes with the ProTec Bb case.
