1928 Buescher True Tone model 730 gold plated clarinet

$1,500.00

For sale we have a very rare Buescher True Tone metal clarinet with a gold plated finish, specifically the “J” finish with a satin quadruple gold plate finish on the body and a burnished quadruple gold plate finish on the keys. This clarinet is being sold on commission for the current owner. This clarinet features a large .600” bore and will work best with large bore mouthpieces. That being said with my vintage Buffet mouthpiece the intonation is quite decent for a vintage clarinet. I would even say the scale is a bit more even that some other large bore clarinets I’ve tried. The current owner had this clarinet repadded with black Valentino pads in the upper joint and white Valentino pads in the lower joint. All pads are in great shape and the clarinet plays well from top to bottom. Unsurprisingly it is quite a free blowing instrument with lots of flexibility and would be excellent for jazz. Overall the instrument is in decent cosmetic condition with only some light dents, dings and scratches as expected with age, most of which are on the bell. The finish on the body does show wear as expected with a gold plated instrument, mostly on the back of the instrument. The finish on the keys is a bit better though the gold plating is still worn in places where the fingers make contact. The tuner in the barrel moves freely and both the barrel and bell are removable. It does appear that the register key was re-soldered at some point as the gold plating is missing around the hinge tube, however the work looks good and I imagine it would not be hard to have this one key plated to better hide the repair. Does not come with a mouthpiece unfortunately but it does have the original case in good structural condition, though the handle is missing.
