1910 Buffet Pre-R13 C key clarinet, restored with cork and leather pads!

Up for sale we have a vintage Buffet professional level “Pre-R13” C clarinet. This clarinet was made in 1910 but has recently been restored to bring it back to excellent playing condition. As part of this process, both body joints were fully stripped, cleaned and oiled with natural almond oil with vitamin E mixed in. The keys were also fully stripped, cleaned and degreased, however for this instrument I elected to leave the patina intact. The instrument was then fully repaded with a combination of high quality leather and cork pads. All leather pads were treated with lacquer in the traditional method to make them more resistant to water and to help keep the leather soft for many years to come. Keys were tightened to ensure reliable pad placement and all keys were oiled with Syntek key oil. Both joints have a “tight as a coke bottle” seal and the instrument plays well with a nice full sound from top to bottom. I also went ahead and made a custom extension to help improve the tuning of E/B. The instrument is in decent condition considering its age and only shows normal dents, dings, scratches and wear to the finish. I also don’t see any cracks, chips or other damage to the wood. With the included mouthpiece (a modern Buffet Urban Play which tunes particularly well with the instrument) the instrument has decent intonation across the range, especially for a C clarinet! It seems to work particularly well with large bore mouthpieces, which makes sense given the time period. The instrument itself actually has quite a small bore, around 14.6mm at the middle tenon. The instrument is an all around great player with great response, the only reason I am selling it is because I have 2 other Buffet C clarinets from the same era in the shop at the moment. You can see that it has an integrated barrel, however tuning can be quite easily achieved with tuning rings. I have already made a 2mm tuning ring and am happy to make a few more free of charge if you need them. This would be an excellent instrument for someone serious about playing Mahler and other early Modern/late Romantic music on an original instrument without sacrificing intonation. Comes with a case, which is not original but holds the instrument securely.
